Forticlient VPN
Builders wishing to work with key AHS design management tools, including JIRA, will encounter difficulties when outside AHS networks. One must emulate a network profile operating within the AHS intranet because AHS network firewalls block access to or communications with needed servers. There are a few ways of doing this, with the following highlighted because of compatibility with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
Citrix Workspace
Connect Care Hyperspace
Forticlient VPN
If the above methods do not work, try establishing a virtual private network (VPN) connection through the AHS firewall so that one's network profile appears to be on the AHS intranet. AHS does not allow use of most VPN products. It will not be possible to use a VPN system installed to protect offsite home, clinic or office computer(s). Indeed, other VPN solutions (such as the Cisco products used by Alberta universities) need to be disconnected before initiating an AHS VPN connection.
AHS uses FortiClient (from Fortinet) as its VPN solution. This involves a customized instance and version of the client application software. Do not download a generic client from FortiClient internet sites. Instead, It is important to follow the instructions linked above with download locations as follows (if you have already installed from a different location, be sure to uninstall and then re-initiate installation from these links):
Use the following settings when configuring and saving a VPN connection for AHS:
Connection Name: AHS
Description: AHS VPN
Remote gateway: vpn.albertahealthservices.ca
Customize port (select): 443
Client certificate: none
Authentication: Save Login (select)
Username: [AHS Healthy Network user name, same as used to log in to Connect Care]
When making a connection with the settings above, use your RSA token code (PIN plus hard token code or soft token code only) in the "Password" field, NOT your AHS Healthy Network password credential.
Use the VPN connection to allow Intranet assets (such as JIRA) to be opened within browsers on your computer (e.g., Safari, Chrome, Firefox). While connected to this VPN configuration, other Internet connections may not work.
